Petra Bard

Professor Dr. habil. Petra Bárd LL.M. SJD is Professor at Radboud University, Research Centre for State and Law (SteR), Nijmegen; Associate Professor at ELTE School of Law, Budapest; Research Affiliate at CEU Democracy Institute, Budapest and Visiting Professor at Goethe University, Frankfurt. She teaches EU constitutional and human rights law, EU criminal justice, criminology and data protection law.


She participates in numerous professional networks and international research projects dealing with human rights and the rule of law. She authored and co-authored more than 220 publications including several monographs. She closely follows rule of law backsliding and explores possible EU responses. In another set of research projects she focuses on European criminal policy, hate crimes and EU criminal justice, with special emphasis on mutual recognition, mutual trust and individual rights. She authored several studies on behalf of the Center for European Policy Studies for the Fundamental Rights Agency, the Committee of the Regions and the European Parliament. She was Council of Europe HELP (European Programme for Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) focus point for Hungary organising and designing human rights training for judges and public prosecutors. She is member or board member at multiple scientific societies and commissions of trust, such as the Hungarian Society of Criminology, and the European Society of Criminology. She is the recipient of multiple scholarships and awards, such as DAAD, Engage Fellowships at CEPS and OSIFE, The Fernand Braudel Senior Fellowship at the EUI and the Rusztem Vámbéry II award she received for her outstanding achievements in criminology.
